Dim Sum a Little Bit of Heart - A film by
Wayne Wang
The movie we chose to
see was Dim Sum a Little Bit of Heart, since we read the title and saw the cover
we were pretty sure it was about Chinese food, but I'm wrong because although the
characters ate some exemptions typical dishes of China as rice, soup and drink
tea, the movie had nothing to do with food. This movie is about an old woman that
a spiritualist told her she would die soon. The star of the movie decided to
make all her dreams, one of which was to become a citizen of the United States,
see the wedding of her youngest daughter and traveling to China to say goodbye
to her ancestors. This movie shows a very close family, with sons who respect and
love their mother.
Liverpool, England. A Chinese Grocery. Three women sit making dumplings. Conversation turns to traditions, relationships and men and we discover that although distinctly Chinese, their subjects are universal concerns. A gentle informal picture of the women's everyday struggles framed by the distinctive Liverpool skyline and infused with a warm humour.
